Post more info on exhibitions

Test Images

Inspired by David Hilliards series of triptychs, I chose to create a similar panoramic triptych effect. This images are fairly sporadic of the moment and preparation was not given.
The effect is interesting and has become an on going process of experimentalism.
To create a pleasing triptych next time i will mount on a tripod & will not use a wide angle lens.

360 degrees lens attachment.

I am currently exploring options in experimenting with equipment to capture the locations & their atmosphere.
This lens attachment can capture a full 360 degree view of a room in one image.

Tattooed Tears documentary.

Exploring the realm of documentary film. I recently viewed a Nick Broomfield piece following 4 young American prisoners, circa 1978. Initially i was apprehensive to watch the film, considering the production date & whether it would have any relevancy to my work.
Alas, i went ahead to find a style of documentary film that felt so fresh & authentic, a style that has somehow been forgotten in the past 30 years.
I was gladly proved wrong from my previous judgement of a potentially biased film, the story involves both points of view from prisoner to prison guard. The editing is raw, which somewhat compliments the story.
Inspired by this piece of low budget documentary i am compelled to create a moving image of the squat and its day to day highs & lows of the members.

The Devils Playground.

The most influential photo book i have viewed in the whole of this process. Previously I have only seen Goldin's first published 'The Ballad of Sexual Dependency' & other selected famous works. The book is an eye opening view on insights to family family life.

Exhibition: Irving Penn

Today I took a stroll though the NPG to find the recently opened Irving Penn portrait collection. Previously i found his commissions for Vogue inspiring but the collection shown today does not give Penn his creative justice. Focusing primarily on his portraiture from early works to final works. Unaware or how relevant his work is on my project i researched into his earlier work that was not shown in the gallery.

Nan Goldin: Contacts.

Forever going in circles of images only to be brought back to Nan Goldin.

“It’s really a world–you have to remember that. People look at photographs and believe them as truth and they always will. People look at my photographs and think this is real–this life exists. Even if they know that it doesn’t” - Ryan Mcginley

Inspiration: David Hilliard

“Photography became a vehicle through which i could navigate and maintain a kind of control. i could order events, categorize friends and places...edit my world. Photography made everything around me look better. it made life clearer. As a boy i felt as though i had very little control over my life. Photography was an antidote. It was my escape”
David Hilliard

Inspiration: Nan Goldin

“I used to think I couldn’t lose anyone if I photographed them enough . . . In fact, they show me how much I’ve lost.”
Nan Goldin

Decode Exhibition.

To research moving images possibilities i visited the Decode exhibition at the V&A. A small but inspiring collection of cutting edge video art. I gathered ideas around an idea of a video portrait of a squat and its selected members.

Decode: Digital Design Sensations showcases the latest developments in digital and interactive design, from small, screen-based, graphics to large-scale interactive installations. The exhibition includes works by established international artists and designers such as Daniel Brown, Golan Levin, Daniel Rozin, Troika and Karsten Schmidt. The exhibition features both existing works and new commissions created especially for the exhibition.

Decode is a collaboration between the V&A and onedotzero, a contemporary arts organisation operating internationally with a remit to promote innovation across all forms of moving image and interactive arts.

The exhibition explores three themes: Code presents pieces that use computer code to create new works and looks at how code can be programmed to create constantly fluid and ever-changing works.Interactivity looks at works that are directly influenced by the viewer. Visitors will be invited to interact with and contribute to the development of the exhibits. Network focuses on works that comment on and utilise the digital traces left behind by everyday communications and looks at how advanced technologies and the internet have enabled new types of social interaction and mediums of self-expression.

Magazine Submissions.

I have already gained interest from a culture/fashion magazine whom will be using my images in their online magazine.

I am interested in sending my images out to other sources to gain opinion and possible publishing.

Here is an email sent with attached images to ilovefake magazine based in the Netherlands.

Hi.

I'm currently working on a photo-story documenting a group of squatters based in London. I saw you accept submissions & wondered if you'd like to include the story in a future issue of your magazine?
Please don't hesitate to get back to me if you need more info or images.

Thanks!

Squatting...

Always has been and always will be a topic of great debate. Rules are bent, legislation's are broken. Typically degraded by right wing thinkers
